Figuring Out Figures of Speech

We were sitting at the table making Valentine cards for the girls' classmates when Sophia said something I didn't believe (though I can't quite remember what it was now).So I said, "Sophie, are you pulling my leg?"
At which point, Riley peeked under the table.
My legs were still there. And Sophie wasn't even touching them.
So I said, "Honey, Sophie's not really pulling my leg. It's an expression." Then I went into a long explanation about what I really meant, blah, blah.
After my lengthy lecture, Riley turned to me and said, "What are you really saying Momma?"
Enough said.
